  • Begin classical ensemble piece
 
Week 2: The Blues
  • 12 bar blues form
  • Melodic structure (sentence form)
  • Review the C major scale
  • Scale exercises
 
Week 3: Scales and improvisation
  • The minor pentatonic scale
  • The Blues scale
  • Improvisation in blues
 
Week 4: Fingerpicking styles and using a pick
  • Basic fingerstyle patterns
  • Travis picking
  • Using a pick: technique and patterns
 
Week 5: Accompaniment styles
  • Jazz/blues Freddie green comping
  • Travis pick variations
  • Fingerstyle block chord 
  • Bossa Nova basic pattern
  • The major pentatonic scale
 
Week 6: Barre chords
  • The circle of fifths
  • The 4 basic shapes
  • CAGED system
 
Week 7: Improvisation
  • Melodic arpeggios: the Dom 7 arpeggio
  • Alternating major and minor pentatonics
  • Blues phrasing
 
Week 8: putting it all together, preparing for the final concert
