Testimonial about this class

Mary Thorp
Richard has an ability to bring clarity to this work & simplifies it so anyone can grasp it. I’m not a musician. Nor did I really know anything about ear training.
In my consulting, I listen to clients who are in new conversations that are shaping humanity. The foundation of their work begins with integrity, authenticity, being cause in the matter & having a commitment bigger than themselves. I was curious what the experience of Richard’s mastery would add to my highly trained listening.
I am quite amazed at what I’m hearing that I had no prior access to. He really is empowering me to train my body at a new level.
Message me if you have any questions about Richard’s or my work.
Thank you, Richard!

About the course

What intrigues you about music and the possibility of hearing it more deeply?
What do you want to hear that you're not hearing now?
How does listening at a new level impact having your dreams fulfilled?
How do you discover the joy of the journey through listening?
How do get out of your head
and perform from a space of expansive joy?

Let's have a conversation about these questions before you sign up!

My favorite saying is, "You have to come to your senses to go out of your mind." I attribute it to Alan Watts who said, "You have to go out of your mind to come to your senses!" When we play music or do anything while we're in our heads, the result is seldom satisfying. This course teaches musicians and anyone interested in deepening their relationship with music, how to come to your senses and leave the tyranny of the mind, leaving us free to hear, perform and dance with our endeavors, work play money or life.
The primary instrument of every musician is the body, whether an instrumentalist, a dancer, a performer, or a singer. Ear training focuses on that primary instrument, developing each student's musicianship and understanding of music on a visceral level. The approach Dr. Richard Miller has developed over more than 25 years of teaching ear training at Columbia University in NYC and Catholic and Georgetown Universities in Washington DC, comes directly from the kinesthetic learning system of Dalcroze Eurythmics, who taught music through movement. Learn effortlessly and deeply the concepts and choreography that unlock your ability to hear music and perform it with the deepest musical nuance. The musical material explored in this course is universal - both "classical" and "popular," Western and non-Western.
